2 Years On:
Rising from the Ashes

Two years after the fire that destroyed the Portland Mercado, Hacienda CDC is leading a rebuild with purpose—honoring what the Mercado has meant to the community while building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable space for the future.

Before the fire, the Portland Mercado was more than a food hall. It was a gathering space for neighbors, a launchpad for Latino-owned small businesses, and a visible expression of cultural pride in SE Portland. Its loss was deeply felt—not only by vendors, but by the broader community it served.

The rebuild represents more than restoration. The new Portland Mercado is envisioned as a stronger, more sustainable community asset—designed to support entrepreneurs long-term, create economic opportunity, and welcome the public back into a space built for connection and growth. This next chapter is made possible through collective investment. Community support will ensure the Mercado returns not just as it was, but better equipped for the future.
