Our Mission

Hacienda CDC is a Latino Community Development Corporation that strengthens families by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities.

Our Resident Community

Hacienda has a community of approximately 2,000 residents, roughly 60% of which are Latino. Residents typically earn between 30 to 60 percent of Area Median Income: $21,000 to $42,000 for a family of four in 2009. More than half of our residents are children.

A Message from the Executive Director

At Hacienda Community Development Corporation we believe everyone is entitled to an authentic and thriving community, or "Una Comunidad Viva." Based on the belief that for many low-income people, the path to an improved quality of life begins with a stable, safe and affordable home, we are crafting an innovative and well-rounded system that seeks to uncover the capacity for self-reliance of those we serve.

With modest investments in asset building, from culturally specific inter-generational education, to bilingual homeownership counseling and workforce development, we strive to maximize the potential for upward mobility. We believe in designing, molding and supporting the change we inspire throughout our local community. Over the past 20 years Hacienda CDC has transformed neglected neighborhoods in Portland by reclaiming crime-ridden and decayed properties and replacing them with livable infrastructure in which families live, learn and play. The hope we help create today is the enduring legacy we leave for the children of tomorrow.

Our History

Hacienda CDC was formed in 1992 in response to the declining standard of living among Hispanic immigrants in Portland’s lower-income communities. Since then Hacienda has built housing communities on four vacant lots and renovated one run-down apartment complex – a former hotbed of drug activity and prostitution – in the Cully neighborhood, creating 325 units of community-centered affordable rental housing. Hacienda has also developed communities in North Portland and a farm worker development in Molalla, OR for a grand total of 381 housing units.

Hacienda has since expanded its reach, embracing a holistic approach to development and serving Latinos throughout Portland with programs in Community Economic Development, Homeownership Support, and Youth & Family Support Services. We have grown to become Oregon’s largest Latino-led, Latino-serving organization and remain a trusted name in the Latino population. As Portland’s Latino population has grown rapidly, Hacienda continues building capacity to offer our bicultural services to Latinos and other low-income families throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
