Sandra's Story
Hi, my name is Sandra Fonseca, and my daughter’s name is Gisel Dominguez Fonseca and she is 28 months old. I am very happy and satisfied with the Portland Niños program because my family has experienced some surprising changes and we have learned how to have fun together as a family.
In September of 2009 my family was referred by the Multnomah County Health Clinic because we were going through a rough time. I didn’t know how to spend time with Gisel, she played alone or watched television while I was busy with housework, and my husband didn’t spend time with her either. Since I joined Portland Niños they have shown me how to spend quality time with my daughter, and I have noticed changes in her. I have started to practice the activities that my Parent Educator gives me during our home visits, and I participate in the group meetings and other activities sponsored by the program. All this has been a great help to my family, we now spend time with Gisel, practice the activities, and enjoy each other’s company. My daughter and I have also begun to socialize with other families in the program.
Portland Niños has been a huge help to my family. We have learned different activities that help support the development of our daughter, as well as ways to improve our communication as a family.
