ANGELA MARTIN - BOARD CHAIR

Angela's service as a board member of Hacienda is informed by a long career in non-profit advocacy and a proven track record in policy development, coalition building and communications strategy. She is an experienced campaign and coalition manager who understands how to build diverse and strategic coalitions as well as activate them for maximum effectiveness inside and outside the Capitol.

Angela is a skilled public speaker who has logged many hours appearing on local radio as a guest commentator and presented to audiences of all sizes. Her progressive credentials include leading a broad coalition of faith leaders and social service advocates in support of stronger consumer protection laws, and directing the successful passage of foreclosure reform as the Executive Director of Economic Fairness Oregon.

 She lives in NE Portland with her partner Arielle Clark and their dog Cleo. Together they enjoy exploring Oregon’s backcountry and hidden treasures.

Javier's background and education in Real Estate Investments, International Business as well as his bilingual skills in English and Spanish have allowed him to serve a wide spectrum of buyers and sellers in the Portland Metro and Vancouver areas.

Building his growing reputation through hard work, client advocacy, and innovative thinking, Javier sets his expectations high.  He quickly became the go-to realtor within the RE/MAX network and the city's leading housing non-profit organizations.  Javier's seasoned experience, sharp instincts, foresight and ability to anticipate market trends, enables him to lead and create opportunities for buyers and sellers in up, down, volatile and changing markets.  Javier is a strong and savvy negotiator whether his client is the buyer or the seller

Javier's work has been punctuated by his involvement with the local community. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors at Hacienda CDC. He has also been a longtime partner and preferred Real Estate Broker at the Portland Housing Center.

VALENTINA GOMEZ-ORANTES - TREASURER

Life and Business Coach

Valentina Orantes has been a leader in Latino micro-enterprise development in Portland for many years. An immigrant from Chiapas, Mexico, where she has an extensive background in micro-finance, Ms. Orantes worked for many years at Hacienda Community Development Corporation and played a leading role in the development of Hacienda’s award-winning Micro-Mercantes Micro-Enterprise program and also in training many of the businesses that have opened in the new Portland Mercado in SE Portland. Her philosophy of leadership and personal development as a critical component of success for immigrant entrepreneurs was essential in the development of the Portland Mercado.

Valentina Orantes has created a personal development training call Liderazgo Autentico. This training is about you – who you are, what you care about, and what you want to accomplish in life and in your business. The approach of Liderazgo Autentico pushes you to clearly identify your core values and priorities, embrace your true strengths and weaknesses, and clearly understand and articulate your own story. In doing this you will develop your own unique and authentic leadership style. It is this authentic leadership -- Liderazgo Autentico – that inevitably leads you to become the chief protagonist of your own life and to shed the role of victim that can be tempting for so many. By becoming the chief protagonist in your own life story, you will learn to focus on the goals you wish to achieve and how you can do that through the development and growth of your business.

While this philosophy and approach has value to anyone running or thinking of starting a small business, the Liderazgo Autentico program is one with special value for those in the Latino immigrant community. The cultural values and specific goals that Latino immigrants have are carefully taken into account in the development of the training program.

Jose Ibarra   

Coordinator for Multnomah County, Interfaith Initiative

José, an experienced civic-relations professional with strong community relations and business management expertise, spent several years as a bank executive in Oregon. José is alum of the University of Oregon. He also served our country as a United States Marine.  As a civic leader, he has always worked to engage communities in public decision making processes, particularly in projects with potential to affect its citizens. At the pleasure of the Governor, he served on the Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs from 2002 to 2011, and also served as Chair for three years. José provided leadership for the Commission and oversaw its efforts in community relations and civic engagement opportunities. His selfless efforts, integrity and commitment to help people of every background and persuasion win him praise from community and business groups throughout Oregon. José also served as Chair of the United States Council on Latino Affairs.  José joined Multnomah County in 2011, and since March 2015 he overseas outreach efforts and capacity building between Multnomah County and the Interfaith Community.

Victoria Lara

Lara Media Services- Owner

Victoria is the founder and Chief Marketing officer of Lara Media Services. Lara Media is the only Latino woman owned media agency in the Pacific Northwest. Under her leadership, Lara Media provides business strategy, and media purchasing and planning for a large number of satisfied clients. Lara Media also provides Latino outreach consultancy, focus groups, and significant pro-bono work in the Latino community. In keeping with the family tradition three of her brothers live in the area and collaborate in the Lara Media mission. Victoria’s primary responsibility is the day-to-day management of Lara Media operations as well as directing several media campaigns. She also serves as a consultant for the Oregon State DHS. She is a tireless advocate for the Latino Community. Her passions are communication and community. She helps large numbers of people by providing resources and services that connect the Latino Community with state and federal agencies, and businesses.

Maria Ordonez

AMO Cleaning Services, LLC- Owner

In addition to serving on Hacienda CDC’s board, Maria is an active member of the Portland Mercado project’s Asamblea, or general assembly. She was first introduced to Hacienda CDC when she took the Arrancando Mi Negocio microenterprise training course in 2011. Her self-motivation and entrepreneurial drive sets an example for aspiring Latino business owners. Despite staying busy as a mother, wife, and co-owner of AMO Cleaning Services, LLC, Maria enjoys volunteering to support Hacienda CDC’s diverse programming.

JOSEPH PORTILLO

Umpqua Bank- Loan Officer

Joe has been an active member of the banking community for several years, as well as held several positions working closely with Latino populations. In 2004, he served as an interpreter for Passport to Languages (Portland, OR) interpreting for Hispanic patients and doctors, as well as helping patients fill out medical paperwork and schedule future appointments. In 2005, Joe was the Latin American Representative for Shindaiwa Inc. (Portland, OR) responsible for training, sales and technical support for distributors in the Latin American territories. In 2006, Joe entered the banking community as a Loan Officer for Pacific NW Mortgage where he counseled clients through the process of homeownership and improving their credit history. Joe currently serves as a Loan Officer for Umpqua Bank where he works with non-profits to educate first time homebuyers about home buying programs and help them to achieve their financial goals.

Peter Platt

Andina Restaurant- Owner and Developer

Peter is the founder and family co-owner of Andina, the award-winning Peruvian eatery located in Portland's Pearl District. Since opening its doors in 2003, Andina has grown to become the largest independently owned restaurant in Portland and the third-largest Hispanic owned business in Oregon. Now in transition to becoming a certified B-Corporation, Andina will continue to grow as a social enterprise supporting the creation of a more socially and environmentally responsible food value chain, both at home and in Peru. Peter recently graduated from the Yale School of Management with a concentration in social entrepreneurship. He also serves on the Board of the Oregon Food Bank.

ANA ALVARADO

Alvarado's Event Planning- Owner

From Michoacan, Mexico, Ana was raised in the Cully Blvd Neighborhood in North East Portland.  She is a great leader, bilingual and bicultural and has served the community for many years.  Ana majors in cultural awareness and the performing arts.  For many years she has dedicated her talent in teaching performing arts to youth through Folkloric dancing.  As an event planner, she has demonstrated her professional skills on stage, managing fiestas and Quinceaneras; she is well known within the Latino Community.    Ana has been involved with Hacienda since its inception and she is familiar with many of Hacienda’s old properties formerly known as the “Galaxy.”  Ana has strong ties in the Hispanic community and has a good grasp of the culture. Over the years, Ana and her family have spearheaded many of Hacienda CDC and Multnomah County’s programs which continue offering service to this date.  She is also familiar with many of the services needed for low-income Hispanic families who often deal with social and economic barriers.  She jump started her career as a volunteer which led to full time employment with Hacienda, because of her expertise in community development she was eventually recruited serve on Hacienda’s Board of Directors.  Ana holds a degree in business administration manages her family’s business, while pursuing her profession within the community.

RON JOHnSON

Wells Fargo Bank VP – Regional Banking District Manager

A 15 year company veteran, Ron Johnson has held various positions in the consumer finance, learning & development and retail banking divisions of Wells Fargo in both California and Oregon.  Ron currently holds the position of Vice President & Regional Banking District Manager overseeing 10 retail banking stores across Washington County.  Ron is passionate about community service and previously served as a board member for Dramatic Results (Long Beach, CA) and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon (Bend, OR).  Ron led the United Way Community Support Campaign for Wells Fargo in Oregon & SW Washington in 2012 & 2013.  Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Ron earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of La Verne in 2001 where he was a 3 year NCAA letterman in Men’s Basketball.  He is currently a second year student at the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.  Ron is happily married to wife, Shanine, and is the proud father of two boys, Carson (10) and Lucas (1).  Ron has been a member of the board of directors for Hacienda CDC since February 2015.
