Foreclosures Shown to Erode Stability of Latino Children and Families, NCLR

The National Council of La Raza partnered with the University of North Carolina’s Center for Community Capital to release this study, investigating the effects of foreclosure on Latino children and families. The recession has hit Latino workers especially hard, leading to a loss of household income that has forced many families into delinquency, facing possible foreclosure. As this report shows, losing a home results in devastating long-term effects to the family, both economically and socially. It is especially troubling that none of the families interviewed were able to obtain help from their financial institutions. Hacienda’s homeownership program supports and advocates for these families as they negotiate tough economic times and confusing financial procedures, hopefully allowing them to keep their homes. To learn more, read the report and then check out Hacienda’s homeownership programs to see what we’re doing to help.
