Portland Niños

Portland Ninos aims to reduce preventable health disparities in Latino children. At our community centers, parents of children age 0 to 6 attend six-week education classes on safety, nutrition and dental health using popular education techniques. Parents and children learn together how to make healthy snacks, appropriate portion sizes for children, teeth brushing techniques and the importance of home safety, such as storing chemicals out of reach of children. Our partner, OHSU School of Dentistry, also offers two to three dental screenings a year to about 300 children a year and free dental care (up to $500 per child).
"Portland Niños has helped me learn how to prevent accidents and how to educate my children in the best way possible. I learned that reading to my children at an early age helps them to develop better reading skills." -Susana, Hacienda parent and longtime participant of Portland Niños.
