Camino a Casa

Hacienda’s Camino a Casa provides a number of services en route to home ownership, helping first-time home buyers make what could be the biggest purchase of their life. We offer the IDA (Individual Development Account) program to assist you build a savings that is matched 3 times what you save! We also provide down payment assistance to those who qualify in Multnomah County. Selected participants will be required to attend home buyer education classes, and work with bilingual, HUD (Office of Housing and Urban Development) certified staff who will answer any questions you have and follow you through the buying process.

IDA- Individual Development Account

Individual Development Accounts are made possible by the state of Oregon to help fist-time home buyers save money towards their down payment. Funds are matched 3 to 1; up to $3,000 that you save will be tripled (up to $9,000!).  Participants will be helped through the home buying process with workshops and counseling by our certified, bilingual staff.

Down Payment Assistance

Residents of Multnomah County may participate in the Down Payment Assistance program.

Qualified families are eligible to receive down payment assistance loans, training in mortgage-readiness and financial fitness training, up to $5,000. Funds received are used for closing costs and down payment assistance.

Education

To promote long-term financial stability, home-buyer education and financial literacy curriculum are a cornerstone of the program. Classes include:

  • ABCs of Home-buying: 8-hour class required of all participants.
  • Understanding the path to homeownership: development of a savings plan; risk mitigation; choosing a trusted lender; foreclosure prevention education;
  • Budgeting: creating monthly budget plans, one-on-one coaching and review of a monthly budget with homeownership counselor;
  • Credit counseling: homeownership coordinator plays an intermediary role between the resident and credit agencies.
  • Connecting participants to valuable resources as they look to own their own home.

The purpose of this course is to educate first time home-buyers in all aspects of the home buying process and homeownership responsibilities. The Course is designed to assist all participants in making sound decisions when purchasing a home and also advice in preserving their home.
